REAL LIFE ENGLISH: Part 1

Welcome to this English lesson inspired by "Real Life English" series. In this lesson, you will learn how to speak fluently in English and use the words and expressions used by native English speakers. Now let's jump right into the lesson



#1 - Dependable

adjective /dɪˈpen.də.bəl/


Trustworthy and reliable; Capable of being trusted or depended on; If someone or something is dependable, you can have confidence in him, her, or it:

  • A dependable car

  • Her boss said that she was a very dependable assistant

  • Conversely, the child whose needs have been addressed in a consistent love, and supportive manner may subsequently regard others as dependable and trustworthy.

SENTENCE PATTERN: (Name) is the most dependable person I know because (reason)

Example: Mark is the most dependable person I know because he is always there when I need him


#2 - Exuberant

adjective /ɪɡˈzuː.bɚrənt/


Joyously unrestrained and enthusiastic; Very energetic and showing the happiness of being alive

  • Young and exuberant, he symbolizes Italy's new vitality.

  • He has such an exuberant personality

  • Exuberant children in the present study may have been exceptionally focused on the possibility of a reward, that when unfulfilled, resulted in frustration.

SENTENCE PATTERN: The exuberant (person) (description) (action connected to their exuberance)

Example: The exuberant woman with long hair enjoys making other people laugh


#3 - Reserved

adjective /rɪˈzɜrvd/


Restrained in words and actions; Reserved people do not often talk about or show their feelings or thoughts

  • a quiet, reserved woman

  • Marcus is more reserved than his brother, he love being around people.

SENTENCE PATTERN: (Person) was very reserved, so (person) didn't (action connected to being reserved)

Example: Her brother was very reserved, so he didn't speak to anyone at the event.


#4 - Ride or Die


[Slang] It refers to extreme loyalty to someone or something; when you are willing to do anything for someone you love or someone you really appreciate in your life

  • My best friend will always be my ride or die

SENTENCE PATTERN: (Person) has been my ride or die since (time period)

Example: She has been my ride or die since we were in the 4th grade


#5 - Self-Assured

adjective /ˌself·əˈʃʊərd/


Confident in one's own abilities or character; Extremely confident

  • The interview showed her as a self-assured and mature student.

  • She moves with self-assured grace.

SENTENCE PATTERN: A self-assured person usually (action connected to being self-assured)

Example: A self-assured person usually speaks well in front of a crowd of people
