More Than Just an Internship

Hi, I'm Ken. I have just finished my internship @ atWare Vietnam. To be honest, the internship journey was amazing. Let's walk through my internship journey 😆

Surprises from the very beginning

I was totally amazed by the interview process. Although it was just a small gesture, the gift I received after the interview really surprised me. I could feel that they respected the time candidates spent throughout the interview process.

When I first joined the company, everyone made an effort to welcome us. I received small gifts, cakes, drinks, and other little surprises. Hooray!

The opportunity to grow

One of the things I appreciated most about this internship was the opportunity to grow.

During these two months, I learned a lot of new things, from technical knowledge to practical skills. I learned about Agile Scrum, Clean Architecture, Trunk-Based Development, unit testing, and many other practices used in a real development team.

More importantly, I had the chance to apply what I had learned to a real project. My knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms, mathematics, and programming helped me approach real problems and think about different ways to solve them. Through coding, code reviews, pair programming, and discussions with other developers, I gradually became more confident in working with a real codebase.

But beyond the technical knowledge, I also learned a different way of thinking: keep asking why. Why do I need to do this? Why do we choose this solution? Is there a better way to do it? I learned that writing code is not just about making something work, but also about continuously questioning, improving, and finding a better solution.

Of course, I still have a lot to learn. But after this internship, I feel that I not only know more about technology, but also have a better understanding of how to think, how to work, and how to continuously improve as a software engineer.

Other than work

The knowledge was great, and the experience was invaluable, but what made the internship truly special were the memories we created together.

Outside of work, the time I spent with other members was also a great part of the internship. The moments when we laughed together after a long meeting, ate and drank together, and sometimes just messed around to relieve the stress after work. The badminton sessions, the runs (though they were pretty brutal for a newbie like me 😆), the meals at local restaurants, the conversations at the lunch table, and the quiet support everyone gave me behind the scenes. All of these moments made my internship such a wonderful experience.

Some last words

I have a few words for future candidates who are considering an internship at atWare Vietnam. Don't hesitate. Just do it. You might be surprised by how much you can learn, how much you can grow, and how many great memories you can make along the way!
